How to improve your sleep [without pills]

Everybody knows how important sleep is.

But if you’re over 60, you know how challenging it can be to maintain healthy sleep patterns.

Maybe you find yourself tossing and turning yourself awake every night…

Or maybe you keep waking up every hour on the hour…

Or perhaps you only can only doze off for a couple of hours before being wide awake for sleep the rest of the night…

As a result, you wake up groggy, moody, and energyless the next morning.

If you’ve been struggling with irregular sleep patterns for several days, it’d be wise to see your doctor…

But in the meantime, here are 7 tips to help you sleep like a baby:

#1. Avoid caffeine after 2 pm.

I must admit, as a coffee lover it’s hard for me to say no to a cup or two in the afternoon.

But I know that I must do that if I want to get a good night’s sleep.

Because caffeine can stay in your system for up to 6 hours after your last sip.

This includes drinks like black and green tea, fizzy drinks like Coke and Pepsi, and of course a cup of coffee.

And if you must have a drink in the afternoon, try drinking herbal tea or seltzer water.

#2. Eliminate alcohol 2hrs before bed

Many people think alcohol helps them fall asleep.

While this might be true, alcohol actually hurts the quality of sleep.

So you might fall and stay asleep, but you won’t get a good night of deep, restful sleep.

And as a result, you’ll wake up groggy and moody.

#3. Consider the help of traditional herbal medicine.

Valerian root, chamomile, and kava have been used in traditional herbal medicine to fight sleep troubles for centuries.

So it might be a good idea to give these herbs a try.

If you decide to do so, be sure to consult your doctor first.

#4.  Keep the same sleep schedule

When you go to bed and wake up at the same time every day,  your body’s internal mechanisms adopt this schedule, making it easier for you to fall asleep.

It might be difficult to do if you have an unpredictable schedule, but if you can, this habit does wonders for your sleep.

#5. Try CBD products

Millions of seniors all over the United States are using CBD products to relieve joint pain and improve their sleep quality.

While there are many CBD products on the market, when it comes to sleep aids, the most common choice is gummies

CBD gummies are great because all you have to do is to take chew 1-2 right before you’re ready to brush your teeth, put on your pajamas and you’re ready to drift off into the dreamland.
